Healing My Thyroid

Before I get into all the juicy details and steps I took to heal my autoimmune; you should know where it all began. (Maybe your story is similar to mine!)
When I was around 14/15 (can't remember exact age, hello brain fog! If you know, you know!) I began my cycle and it was so irregular with off and on for months at a time at some points. So off to the ONGYN we went they ran tests for my Thyroid and it came back as Hypothyroidism: (underactive thyroid) if your not already familiar to what this is it's a condition in which your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain crucial hormones. (Those hormones are typically your T3 & T4 which controls your metabolism: affecting the way your body uses energy.)
When my results came back it made sense because I had:
Very little energy.
Sleeping all the time.
Joint pain.
brain fog.
Anxiety/depression.
Typically with Hypo, most patients gain weight (without any outside factors changing such as diet and exercise) and may also have a hard time loosing weight even with lots of exercise.
I never had a fluctuation in my weight so when my results came back as Hypo they were a bit surprised. This was due to an eating disorder that I later found I had. We will save that for a different blog!
Now that you heard some of my symptoms! Let me share with you other possible symptoms.
Fatigue
Increased sensitivity to cold
Constipation
Dry skin
Weight gain
Puffy face
Hoarseness
Muscle weakness
Elevated blood cholesterol level
Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness
Pain, stiffness or swelling in your joints
Heavier than normal or irregular menstrual periods
Thinning hair
Slowed heart rate
Depression
Impaired memory
Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)
If you had any or a lot of these symptoms and haven't received any answers! I would definitely start with seeing your doctor and getting some lab work done!
I also highly recommend requesting a full vitamin blood work panel! Our bodies sometimes don’t absorb vitamin through food and supplements and this could also be causing major symptoms!
With years of trying out new medications and doses and still feeling all the things… they found that I had an autoimmune dessert related to my thyroid! Hashimoto’s disease- the immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland leading to its damage and reduced hormone production.
I stopped taking medication because it was only making me feel more low lows! I later learned from an endocrinologist, the reason for this is the levels will fluctuate up and down, depending on if the body is experiencing a flareup, so therefore the medication will work at times and not at others.
(I am not a doctor and I am not saying go off medication I just personally did for my own journey)

(Not a doctor just what I did and my opinions try what you want and feel called)
some form of movement: this helps get your circulatory system moving aiding blood flow and in clearing lymph aiding in breaking up built up toxins in the body.
I started by practicing yoga🧘🏼♀️ I noticed that if I would work out I would get sick and felt like I was over doing it and my body would ache for days. With having something more gentle I was letting my fast pace body know it was safe to start slowing down. This also connected me to my breath again in a deeper less shallow way. I did free YouTube videos from yoga with Adrienne or boho beautiful
then came the breath-work and EFT tapping technique! This helped me with my nervous system and to remove or aid with the anxiety and over thinking either past or worry of the further helping get me closer to the present.

diet change! Gluten free and mostly dairy free -really dairy free would be ideal but that is also a wild commitment to no cheese lol but totally doable and your body will Thankyou by creating less inflammation in the body. I also learned about the vedas via Aryuveda of the body and I would have less spices because I was naturally more red and puffy this also helped with inflammation.
leaving a unhealthy relationship this reduced anxiety and depression and brought me reiki- reiki showed me deep meditation and the importance of listening to the inward messages and helped me see my desires and gave me power back to start healing- showed me to trust my intuition
yoni steaming! This was a big energetic clearing and power reclaiming from ancestral wounds along with aiding in period regulation via seed cycling
journaling and rage writing / I would write with my eyes closed which would basically be scribbled but it wouldn’t the thoughts running out of my mind faster and then clear space for new thoughts being more intentional of filling them with positive possibilities and mantras
mirror self care! Yes with guasha and massage and wellness things like facial routine but also with talking nice to myself and really connecting to my inner child through mirror work. Finding the insecurities and places of shame that don’t have a place anymore because they were projected traumas or ideas that I no longer choose to believe ! A belief is huge because this will shape our lives so getting to the root belief and then choosing a new one if it’s not serving is so vital.
vitamin blood work and check to see that your body can absorb them b12 & d lack can create similar symptoms as thyroid like depression body aches etc (mine personally doesn’t and so I receive b12 shots)
nature! Grounding and putting my feet in the grass and having a journey inward to really realize we are all deeply connected and that life has a cycle and it’s meant to be that way we can’t always be in the high flow state we truly do need the winter rest after the fall letting go.
Seed cycling- honoring my menstrual cycle and connecting with her in a safe beautiful way! Eating seeds at different stages of our four phases of the month aids in nutrients and hormones we need during those times!
connecting to my throat chakra! Our thyroid is so connected to her voice energetically and really asking if we are repressing any emotions or past ancestral emotions and not feeling safe to express them. Also connecting to our ears, may we hear only loving thoughts and connect to a more loving, mindful way of speaking about ourselves.
Our sacral chakra is also very much connected to our thyroid because of our voice and also our cycles so this is why I recommend the Yoni steam and seat cycling along with journaling any old shame or repressed Ancestral traumas.
